Design and Make
Lamp making year 10 2021
Over the course of two terms the year ten students design and make their own lamps. A heavy emphasis is placed on the design stage with students considering all the components, materials and safety aspects required to make a successful lamp. The aesthetics of the lamp when turned on and when turned off must also be considered along with the function. Students are encouraged to test and experiment with materials, methods of construction and ways in which light can be used for effect as well as to develop their problem solving skills inherent to such a project.

This project involved: class 5&6 who completed most of the mud brick making as part of a unit of work involving construction/building; class 7 who dug the footings, mixed and poured the concrete and began the stonework,; class 9/10 who completed the stone sub-wall, the structural posts (hidden), roof frame, bottle windows and window/door frames; class 8 who completed much of the mud brick laying which was finished off by class 7 who also rendered and created the tree relief.
